We explore why the interior design industry will be enhanced by AI rather than replaced by it, highlighting the creative and relationship-driven aspects that technology cannot replicate. The discussion emphasizes how design professionals deliver value through their unique vision, hands-on approach, and ability to translate client needs into beautiful, functional spaces.

• Interior design is one industry that won't be hit negatively by AI but will only be enhanced by it
• Design requires intellectual property that is both creative and hands-on, which AI cannot replicate
• AI can't read existing designs, understand client vision, or manage on-site changes
• The industry is built on relationships that AI cannot form with clients
• Interior design firms add value and save clients money through professional expertise
• From kitchen design to skilled trades like wallpaper hanging, implementation requires human touch
• AI will help with communication and efficiency but can't replace the core design work
• The design industry offers untapped opportunities for entrepreneurs and those interested in creative fields
• Working in design surrounds you with talented people, beautiful things, and innovation

Tiffany Woolley:

Welcome to today's iDesignLab tidbit. We're talking about the industry of design, which is about interior design and anything to do with that Architecture, furniture, fabric, all the layers that go into interior design and AI.

Scott Woolley:

AI. It's a big subject these days.

Tiffany Woolley:

AI is a huge subject right now, and the reason I wanted to bring it up on today's tidbit is something that really stuck out to me in a podcast I was listening to is one of the industries that is not going to be hit by AI, but only enhanced by AI, is the industry of the architectural interior design world.

Scott Woolley:

So when you say, hit jobs aren't going to be lost, correct Jobs aren't going to be lost.

Tiffany Woolley:

People aren't going to be replaced, because it's an intellectual property that is creative and also hands-on number one. And you know it's funny because even in our office, for example, when, like, chatgpt first came out, you know the CAD team and the 3D digital team was kind of playing around with oh, let me put this in you know AI and see what comes out, and especially when you're creating things from or enhancing something that already exists, ai can't read that.

Scott Woolley:

Right, they can't see it. But they also can't see the vision of what the client is looking for and wants or likes.

Tiffany Woolley:

Right, and they can't be hand-holding through the process, meaning job site visits. You know what I mean On-the-fly electrical changes, plumbing changes.

Scott Woolley:

These are things that are still only human beings can actually… Because it all comes down to the tastes and the needs of the client or the individual.

Tiffany Woolley:

Well, and the details of execution as well. So it's funny, as we have this podcast that we do enjoy and we bring in as much industry insiders as we can, the business itself, and we talk about this and it's one of our frequent questions about, you know, growth and the industry and AI and you know, is this going to be something that our industry is affected by? And it's such a relationship business. So I don't, which is another facet of why AI can't really you can't have a relationship with AI, at least yet. I know movies like to predict that people will, but this industry is built on relationships and it's a very hands-on industry industry and I want the world to know, you know, through this podcast, which I want to educate people on, just the growth that is still untapped in this interior design.

Scott Woolley:

Because there's so many people that don't realize that an interior design firm can bring so much to the table and, at the end of the day, save dollars Well add value and save dollars.

Tiffany Woolley:

And that goes from every level of the industry, from kitchen design, closet design, all of these types of things. You still, even if an AI is giving you a kitchen design idea, to implement it to the end user, you need people, it to the end user, you need people. So I really want to put out in the world that this industry, you know, should spark some people's. You know, coming out of school or even like during our podcast, they talk about hands on to the trades. I mean, you mentioned even just wallpaper hangers. These are art and they are again a hands-on, needed, individual Right.

Scott Woolley:

Well. Chatgbt will help companies and firms and individuals in communicating back and forth and crafting great emails and letters and things like that and efficiency.

Tiffany Woolley:

Yes, and efficiency, but not you know, and I feel like it you really are a self-promoted entrepreneur. I mean, there's so many facets that I just feel like are so untapped and most people just don't even know about, and that's my tidbit for today is that this is really a special industry and they're surrounded by relationships and, most likely, beautiful things. And talented people and innovation talented people, that you're surrounded by so many positive attributes. Why not give it a look?

Scott Woolley:

So Good input.
